About Us

A Uganda-based team, built around Uganda.

Our story

Trek Wild Uganda was built on one simple idea: the best adventures come from people who actually know the land. Not a call centre in another time zone, not a brochure written from a desk — guides who have spent their working lives in these forests, on these roads, and at these viewpoints.

Between our two founders sit twenty-four years of professional guiding across Uganda. Years of tracking gorillas in Bwindi before the mist lifts, of reading which way a herd will move at Paraa, of knowing which lodge kitchen will still feed you at ten at night after a long transfer from Kidepo. That knowledge isn't something you can buy in; it's accumulated one trip at a time.

We built this site the way we'd want a trip planned: with real information before a sales pitch. A wildlife guide you can search, a calendar that tells you honestly which month suits you, a calculator that gives you a number before you have to ask for one. Every photograph you see here was taken by us, on our own trips. By the time you talk to us, you already know roughly what you want — we just make it happen.

Meet the founders

Xavier Asaaba & Herbert Muzoora — your guides to the Pearl of Africa.

Two Ugandan-born guides with a combined 24 years of experience showing travellers the very best this country has to offer.

Xavier Asaaba

Co-founder & Lead Guide

Xavier has spent over a decade leading treks through Uganda's forests and savannahs, with a deep knowledge of wildlife behaviour, terrain and timing that only comes from thousands of hours in the field. He has a gift for reading the environment — knowing exactly where the gorillas are likely to be, when the light will be perfect for photographs, and how to keep a group calm and curious even in the thick of the bush.

Herbert Muzoora

Co-founder & Head of Journeys

Herbert brings the same 12 years of hands-on experience, with an especially sharp instinct for logistics and route planning across some of Uganda's more remote and rewarding destinations. Well before Trek Wild Uganda, he built a reputation for turning long travel days into smooth, enjoyable parts of the journey — always ready with a story, a shortcut, or a well-timed stop at just the right viewpoint.

What guides us

Four things we don't compromise on.

Local first

We're based in Uganda, not routing you through a foreign call centre. Guides, drivers and planners here know these parks and roads because they work them, not because they read about them.

Inspire first, sell last

We'd rather you spend ten minutes on our Wildlife Encyclopedia or Seasonal Calendar than on a hard sell. If Uganda is right for you, that becomes obvious on its own.

Money that stays here

Revenue-sharing, local employment, and direct-from-community bookings for cultural visits and homestays — the practical detail behind the word 'responsible.' See our Responsible Tourism Centre for the specifics.

Honest, not polished

Where something's uncertain — a receding glacier, a park still recovering its wildlife — we'll say so. A good trip is built on accurate expectations, not brochure language.

Our guides

Drawn from the communities bordering the parks.

Many of the rangers, trackers and guides we work with grew up in villages on a park boundary — they know the terrain and the wildlife's habits from a lifetime spent nearby, not a training manual alone. It's also, practically, how tourism revenue reaches the people whose cooperation keeps these parks protected. More on how that works on our Responsible Tourism Centre.
